Rectifier
Simple two-band FabFilter Saturn preset for tone shaping, resonance softening, and FX sweeps.

Overview
Rectifier is a simple but extremely useful two-band preset for FabFilter Saturn (v1 and v2). I’ve used it across many different projects because of how quickly it reshapes tone in a musical, energetic way.
It’s built on a minimal structure:
- Low band — a touch of Clean Tape saturation
- High band — Rectify drive applied at 20%
The entire character of the effect depends on the crossover. Moving it left or right changes how much of the sound enters the rectified band, dramatically shifting tone, intensity, and harmonic density.
Main Uses
-
General tone enhancement (“sound goodizer”)
If a sound feels flat or slightly dull, dropping this preset onto the channel and adjusting the crossover in context of the full mix often adds just the right amount of harmonic interest. It energizes the sound without feeling artificial. -
Resonance softening
A nice side effect of the rectifier is how it redistributes harmonics. This can sometimes tame resonant peaks in a musical way that feels more natural than reaching for surgical EQ. It doesn’t work on everything, but when it does, the result is smoother and more expressive. -
Sweeps and FX transitions
Automating the crossover creates dynamic, rising distortion sweeps as more frequencies enter the high band. This works well for risers, transitions, tension builds, and drones or evolving textures that need movement.
Practical Note
Rectifier can introduce extra low-end energy. Most of this is not very useful in a mix, so I recommend placing a high-pass filter afterwards to clean up mud and preserve headroom.
